Asteroid Lander

Asteroid Lander is a free lunar lander style game you play in your browser. No download, no account. You are a remote operator landing a mining drone for the Acheron Resource Group: guide it down to a spinning asteroid, manage a shrinking propellant budget, kill your relative velocity and set the lander on the pad under the contract's touchdown limit.

How to play

Gravity pulls you toward the rock and the rock turns under you. Burn the main engine to slow your fall, use the retro thrusters and RCS strafe to hold position over the pad, and keep your speed low and your hull upright at touchdown. The airframe limit starts at 12 m/s and tightens to 6 m/s by the final contract. Every contract gives you less fuel than the last, and the score rewards fuel economy, hull care, beating par, pad precision and a touchdown as close to 0 m/s as you can fly.

Pilot view

The signature mechanic: your ship stays fixed and upright in the centre of the screen, and rotating turns the world around you. Press C or open Settings to switch to the classic fixed-sky tracking view.

The campaign

Ten contracts across C, S, M, D and V-type asteroids, ending with a deflection mission on 2010 RF12. Spinning rocks, companion bodies, drifting targets, comets, debris and thruster malfunctions all turn up along the way, and wrecks of earlier operators sit on your approach. After the campaign the Overtime ledger opens: endless contracts generated deterministically from their number, so every player flies the same contract and scores stay comparable, with surveys, hollow asteroids, tows and new airframes to sign out.
